New York Red Bulls head coach Gerhard Struber is confident his side can still qualify for the MLS playoffs, but declares “next year we want to go on the offensive and win it.”
The NYRB will be looking to extend their streak of consecutive MLS Cup playoff appearances to 12, second only to the Seattle Sounders with 13 straight. The Red Bulls currently sits in ninth place with 40 points in 29 games, tied with local rival New York City FC.
The race remains tight in the Eastern Conference as one victory differentiates the Red Bulls from a playoff position, but Struber isn’t worried.
“We totally believe that we can still reach the playoffs. We can do it, despite significantly lowering the average age of our team and the new situation – and then we want to get as far as possible,” Struber told transfermarkt.us.
"But what is more important to me is, what happens afterward, to achieve it all and play for trophies. That is the next step. When I look back at all our games and how close we were at times, then I think it is realistic to go for it next year.”
