As we approach the midway point of the 23/24 season, a select few elite clubs across Europe’s top leagues remain undefeated. This remarkable achievement demonstrates a consistency and resilience that evades even the most talented squads.
In the last 20 years, only Arsenal’s “Invincibles” of 2003-04 and Juventus’ class of 2011-12 managed to go a full league season without tasting defeat. While today’s superclubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich continue to break points records, an unbeaten campaign has proven a step too far.
We take a look at eight clubs that are still undefeated in the top European championships. If you think the results of one of them are unfair, you can bet on the defeat of this team at Mostbet. UZ.
Arsenal
After narrowly missing out on the Premier League title last season, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal seem poised to challenge again in 2023-24. The Gunners have won six of their first eight matches, with only minor stumbles in home draws against Fulham and Tottenham.
Sitting just behind the league leaders on goal difference, Arsenal made a major statement by defeating Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City juggernaut. It was their first league victory over City in 13 attempts under Arteta. The manager was understandably delighted, hailing his side’s performance against the “best team in the world.”
As Arteta stated after the match, Arsenal fully deserved the win against a team most regard as the global gold standard. It suggests the Gunners have closed the gap and are ready to seriously compete for major honors again. With momentum on their side, Arteta’s men seem hungry to make amends for last season’s near-miss in the title race. After finally conquering City, Arsenal’s self-belief will be sky-high.
Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou’s attacking, possession-based Tottenham have been a breath of fresh air in the Premier League this season. Their eye-catching style represents a stark departure from prior managers. An unbeaten 20 points from 8 matches, including wins over Manchester United and Liverpool, and a draw with Arsenal, is remarkable for a team in transition. Under charismatic Postecoglou, Spurs are ushering in an exciting new era built on flair and fearlessness. If they can maintain this form, Spurs may re-establish themselves as title contenders. For now, fans are enjoying the ride as Postecoglou’s team breathes new life into the Premier League.
Barcelona
Barcelona found themselves trailing 2-0 at home to Celta Vigo as the match entered its final 10 minutes. The reigning La Liga champions were on the brink of their first league defeat this season.
But a remarkable late comeback saw Barcelona score three goals through Robert Lewandowski and Joao Cancelo to claim a stunning 3-2 victory.
The win sent Barcelona top, though Real Madrid soon reclaimed first place with their own victory. Despite dropping points in a 2-2 draw with Mallorca, Barcelona’s deadline day signings of Cancelo and Joao Felix have added threat as they seek to regain the title.
Bayern Munich
There’s nothing surprising here. Bayern rarely lose in Germany. It’s a fact, like the fact that water is wet and fire is hot. Harry Kane is helping them well this season.
Bayer Leverkusen
Last season, Borussia Dortmund failed to capitalize on Bayern Munich’s struggles, missing a prime opportunity to claim the Bundesliga crown.
This campaign, Bayer Leverkusen are emerging as serious contenders under new manager Xabi Alonso. With Alonso’s tactical acumen and Victor Boniface’s lethal finishing, Leverkusen have started strongly, winning 6 of their first 7 league matches.
Leverkusen maintained their unbeaten record by securing a late equalizer away to Bayern, showing their determination and belief. After 7 rounds, they sit atop the table, 2 points clear of Bayern.
With Alonso’s leadership and Boniface’s goals, Leverkusen could finally end Bayern’s stranglehold on the title and bring the trophy back to the BayArena.
Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund entered the 2023-24 season with high expectations, but a series of underwhelming performances raised doubts. Despite avoiding defeat, sloppy draws against Bochum and Heidenheim and a poor showing against PSG in the Champions League left much to be desired.
However, Dortmund have turned things around since the September international break, stringing together four straight Bundesliga wins over Freiburg, Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim and Union Berlin. This run has lifted them level on points with Bayern Munich.
While the loss of Jude Bellingham means a serious title challenge is unlikely, Dortmund’s improved form suggests they should comfortably compete for a Champions League place. After a rocky start, Dortmund seem to have steadied the ship.
Nice
Nice have emerged as surprise title challengers in Ligue 1 this season after taking down both Monaco and PSG. Despite losing several Premier League outcasts in the summer, Nice have started strongly under 34-year-old manager Francesco Farioli.
After eight matches, Les Aiglons sit second in the table above expensively assembled PSG, having won four and drawn four so far. The losses of Schmeichel, Ramsey, Barkley and Pepe seem to have rejuvenated the team.
Backed by owner Jim Ratcliffe, Nice and their young coach Farioli have exceeded expectations early on. If they can maintain this form, they could push PSG all the way in the title race.
