Who are Kenya’s all-time top scorers?

The love for football in Kenya runs really deep, and over the years, the nation has been able to produce some really fine players who have represented and brought honor to the national team at the highest level.

Today, we want to look at the nation’s most prolific goal scorers through the years. This is a countdown of Kenya’s top 5 highest goal scorers of all time.

It is important to note that, in this list, we will only be taking into account goals scored for the Kenya senior team. Goals scored for clubs or the youth teams won’t be considered. Let the countdown begin.

Football

  1. Robert Mambo Mumba

The now-retired Kenyan midfielder spent most of his career playing in Europe, but he was always present whenever the national team called. Despite playing in the midfield, he sits at number 5 in the list of all-time top scorers with 7 goals. Safe to assume that that record will soon be eclipsed.

But which active player do you think will replace Mumba in the top 5 soon? If you’re willing to bet on Masoud Juma or any other player doing that, you can wager on that outcome on betters.co.ke.

  1. Victor Wanyama

The former Celtic and Spurs midfielder holds the record for being the first Kenyan footballer to ever score a UEFA Champions League goal, and he is often regarded as one of the country’s greatest ever players.

Despite being a defensive midfielder, Wanyama sits comfortably in 4th for all-time top scorers with 8 career goals for the Kenya national team.

  1. John Baraza

Now, we get to the strikers. John Baraza scored 12 goals for the Kenya national team during his time, which is pretty impressive when you consider that he only made 27 appearances for the senior team. That means he finished with an average of 0.44 goals per match.

Not bad at all.

  1. Dennis Oliech

Just like Baraza, Oliech averaged 0.44 goals per match during his time with the Kenya senior team, the only difference is that he played in a lot more matches and scored a lot more goals. The now-retired striker scored 28 goals in 63 appearances for the Harambee Stars and he is widely considered as one of the country’s greatest ever players.

  1. Michael Olunga

Of course, who else was going to be in number 1? Olunga is comfortably the country’s greatest ever striker, having scored 30 goals in 60 appearances for the Kenya first team. This means that he averages a goal every other game. So, not only is he the country’s all-time top scorer, he also boasts the best goal to game ratio of everyone in the top 5.

And don’t forget, Olunga is just 31 years old and still active with the national team, so he can still extend his lead at the top before he retires.

How many senior team goals do you think he will end up with?
