In the second matchday of the African leg of the World Cup 2022 Qualification, South Africa will face Ghana.
Bafana Bafana's campaign got off to a shaky start when they were held to a 0-0 tie against Zimbabwe. They can't afford to lose this game, as it may put an end to their chances of progressing to the next round.
South Africa is also attempting to put behind them a poor African Cup of Nations qualification campaign in which they came in third behind Ghana and Sudan. They lost it on the penultimate day of the tournament when they lost to Sudan, despite the fact that a draw would have been enough to secure a berth in continental competition.
South Africa's form appears to be strong on paper since they have gone undefeated in their last eight matches, but six of them were in the low-key COSAFA Cup.
Ghana, on the other side, got off to a strong start with a 1-0 victory over Ethiopia. Mubarak Wakaso scored midway through the first half for the Black Stars, who had a lackluster showing overall. Ghana's recent form is mixed, with only two wins in the last six matches across all competitions, two draws, and two losses.
On paper, Ghana has the better team, owing to the high-quality players that play in Europe. However, in recent excursions, they have had a hard time achieving positive results.
South Africa has an excellent record at this venue, and the 1-1 draw against Ghana in March will give them a lot of confidence.
