Bayern Munich and France defender Lucas Hernandez faces up to a year in prison after a court in Madrid ruled he violated a restraining order that was issued over a physical altercation between he and his girlfriend in the Spanish capital in February 2017.
Hernandez was an Atletico Madrid player at the time and both he and his partner, Amelia Lorente, were arrested and detained at the time as each suffered injuries during the incident.
It was reported in Spain at the time that prosecutors had requested a seven-month jail sentence for him and a six-month jail sentence for her. Instead, each was hit with 31 days of community service and ordered not communicate by any means for a period of six months – a restraining order.
The pair then travelled to Miami together only four months later and were intercepted by authorities on their return to Madrid. Hernandez was arrested and later released, but while Lorente identified, she was not detained as AS reports the court had not notified her of the restraining order.
In 2018, prosecutors requested a year-long sentence for Hernandez and AS now explains that the 35th Criminal Court of Madrid has upheld that request. One appeal has already been rejected on account of the footballer not competing his initial 31 days of community service.
