Lionel Messi experienced bone bruising during PSG's play against Lyon on September 19; the 34-year-old missed the team's midweek triumph over Metz and will miss the match against Montpellier as well. "Yes, we hope he can play (against City)," says Pochettino. On Tuesday, City and PSG will face off in the Champions League.
Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, has stated that Lionel Messi could return from a bone bruising injury in time to face Manchester City.
Messi landed on his left knee and had an MRI scan earlier this week, which revealed evidence of a bone contusion. He was absent from PSG's 2-1 win over Metz on Wednesday, and he will be absent again when they face Montpellier.
The 34-year-old Argentine forward, who signed a two-year contract with the French club in August after leaving Barcelona, will be evaluated again on Sunday ahead of Tuesday's Champions League home match versus City.
"Messi started running today. On Friday, Pochettino told reporters, "We're going to assess him and hope he recovers."
"Let's wait for him to return, but in any case, we must be cautious, and we will monitor his progress in the next days."
"We will be able to provide positive news on Sunday. We are hoping that everything goes smoothly and that he will be available again soon. Yes, we hope he'll be able to play (against City). We must exercise caution."
Pochettino stated the City game will have no bearing on his selection for Saturday's league game, with Angel Di Maria expected to play despite his Champions League suspension for his red card in last season's semi-final against the Premier League club.
