American soccer reporter and writer Grand Wahl died during the 2022 world cup in Qatar while attending the Netherlands vs Argentina match. He died of aortic aneurysm with hemopericardium according to his wife who shared details on social media. The autopsy was peformed by New York City Medical Examiner’s Office.
Mr. Wahl, 49, suffered a catastrophic rupture in the ascending aorta, which carries oxygenated blood from the heart. According to New Your City Medical Examiner's Office
The 49 year-old collapsed in the media room during the match on Dec. 9 and no amount of CPR or shocks would have saved him based on his condition.
Before his death, he gained spotlight at the 2022 world cup on social media after being stopped by authorities to take off rainbow shirt before entering the stadium.
